Seedling Planting

Thank you to everyone who visited us at the Anchorage Home Builders Association Home Show! Below are some basic instruction to help your seedling grow!

Handle Gently

Handle your seedling gently and as little as possible. Seedling survival depends on new root growth.

Keep It Cool

Keep seedlings cool and moist until you can get it in its temporary pot. Get it potted as soon as possible. If it dries out, it's a goner!

Pot It

Plant your new seedling in a temporary pot or box until spring, being sure to water occasionally. Your new blue spruce will wake up, coming out of dormancy. Keep the tree potted in a cool shaded area.

Plant it

While it can be planted outside as soon as the ground is thawed, it is probably best to wait until the end of May when colder nights have passed. After digging a small hole 4" to 6" deep, spread the roots out, then carefully put the soil over them, firming it over the roots. Don't over compact! A small stake may be necessary for a month or so to protect from unexpected wind.

Enjoy!
